‘I cannot express my feelings in words, because whatever I say about them will be less,’ Gulzar says. I can’t believe she’s gone from this world. I consider myself fortunate that Lataji sang the words I had written in her lovely voice. I was able to work with him because of my good deeds. He is a miracle, and such a thing happens only once in a lifetime.
Gulzar had the pleasure of collaborating with Lata Mangeshkar on a number of songs. Lata ji also produced his film ‘Lekin,’ which was nominated for numerous national awards. ‘Yaara Seeli Seely’ is a well-known song from the film.
‘We worked together in many films, and my first song with her was from the film ‘Bandini,’ released in 1963. In it, he performed the song ‘Mora Gora Ang Lai Le.’ Since then, we’ve collaborated on a number of projects, including ‘Khamoshi,’ ‘Kinara,’ ‘Masoom,’ ‘Libas,’ ‘Dil Se,’ and ‘Rudali.’ He produced my film ‘Lekin,’ which was a huge blessing in my life. The best part was that for ‘Yaara Seeli Seely,’ he won the National Award for Best Singer. We received a total of five national awards.
Gulzar says of Lata ji’s transformation, “Shee didn’t like the type of songs that were written in the last few years of his career.” She once told me that I should make a good film with some good music. Why don’t you try writing? She was always eager to hear what others had to say and patiently listened to everyone. He never considered singing to be a job.

“I once joked with him that the line from the film ‘Kinara’s’ song ‘Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai’ was very suitable for her,” Gulzar says.No one could have predicted that these lines would apply to Lata ji. She was a wonderful person who will be missed by the entire country.
